Il se diff\u00e9rencie du chemin de fer \u00e0 voie normale par un \u00e9cartement des voies de 1m, on parle donc d&rsquo;un r\u00e9seau \u00e0 voie m\u00e9trique. Un chemin de fer \u00e0 voie m\u00e9trique peut \u00eatre construit en longeant une route ou construit sur une plate-forme ind\u00e9pendante (comprendre un trac\u00e9 qui lui est propre). Jusqu&rsquo;en 2002, l&rsquo;\u00e9tat fran\u00e7ais en est le propri\u00e9taire puis ce chemin de fer passe aux mains de la collectivit\u00e9 territoriale de Corse.<\/p>\n<p>En 1958, le r\u00e9seau exploit\u00e9 mesure 232 km. L&rsquo;art\u00e8re principale relie Bastia \u00e0 Ajaccio sur une longueur de 158 km.<\/p>\n<p>Pour descendre du train \u00e0 une halte ou \u00e0 une petite gare, il faut pr\u00e9venir le contr\u00f4leur. De la m\u00eame fa\u00e7on, pour monter dans un train, sur le quai, il faut lever le bras. Le train qui rentre en gare ralenti, s&rsquo;il n&rsquo;y a personne, il poursuit son trajet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ligne de Bastia \u00e0 Ajaccio:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Le chantier est ouvert des deux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de la ligne. L&rsquo;ouverture au service commercial de la ligne Bastia &#8211; Corte a lieu le 01\/02\/1888. Le tron\u00e7on Ajaccio &#8211; Mezzana est mis en service le 10\/12\/1888, afin de pouvoir ouvrir d&rsquo;un seul coup la section Ajaccio &#8211; Bocognano. Le 14\/07\/1889<time class=\"nowrap date-lien\" datetime=\"1889-07-14\" data-sort-value=\"1889-07-14\"><\/time>, suit la section de Bocognano \u00e0 Vizzavona. Les trains circulent entre Ajaccio et Vizzavona depuis juin 1889. La section de Vizzavona \u00e0 Vivario a \u00e9t\u00e9 livr\u00e9e au service commercial le <time class=\"nowrap\" datetime=\"10-09\" data-sort-value=\"10-09\">9 octobre 1892.<\/time><\/p>\n<p>Reste \u00e0 construire la section Corte-Vizzavona avec le viaduc du Vecchio. Corte \u00e0 Vivario par le pont du Vecchio est inaugur\u00e9e que le 03\/12\/1894<time class=\"nowrap date-lien\" datetime=\"1894-12-03\" data-sort-value=\"1894-12-03\"><\/time>. Cette date marque l&rsquo;ach\u00e8vement de la ligne centrale<sup id=\"cite_ref-6\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>. L&rsquo;inauguration de la ligne se fait en deux temps : le 10\/01\/1889<time class=\"nowrap date-lien\" datetime=\"1889-01-10\" data-sort-value=\"1889-01-10\"><\/time> de Ponte-Leccia \u00e0 Palasca et le 15\/11\/1890 de Palasca jusqu&rsquo;au terminus de Calvi. Les rames de voyageurs sont toujours coupl\u00e9es avec des wagons de marchandises ce qui ralentit la vitesse des trains. Vers 1938\/39, les nouveaux autorails Billard A 150 D apportent un nouveau confort et un gain de temps. Ils remplacent l&rsquo;un des deux trains \u00e0 vapeur dans chaque sens. Ces autorails fonctionnent au diesel.<\/p>\n<p>A partir du 08\/09\/1943 et les jours suivants, la ligne va \u00eatre bombard\u00e9e par les alli\u00e9s d\u00e9truisant de nombreux ouvrages d&rsquo;arts au sud de Folelli-Orezza et les allemands, dans leur retraite, firent sauter les ponts, les gares et le mat\u00e9riel roulant. (la majorit\u00e9 des troupes allemandes \u00e9tait stationn\u00e9e au sud de l&rsquo;ile).<\/p>\n<p>Les alli\u00e9s ont d\u00e9barqu\u00e9 en Sicile le 10 juillet et en Italie continentale en septembre. Mussolini est hors jeu et les allemands ont bien compris que leur alli\u00e9 italien va les abandonner. Pour ne pas \u00eatre pris en tenaille, les allemands refluent vers le continent tout en retardant l&rsquo;avanc\u00e9e des alli\u00e9s. C&rsquo;est ainsi qu&rsquo;ils \u00e9vacuent de Sardaigne en \u00e9t\u00e9 1943 vers la Corse pour rejoindre G\u00e8ne en Italie. 40 000 Allemands sont pr\u00e9sents de fait sur l\u2019Ile de Beaut\u00e9 le 9 septembre 1943 pour 80 000 Italiens. Le g\u00e9n\u00e9ral italien Magli commandant les 80 000 hommes des troupes d&rsquo;occupation italiennes en Corse ordonna \u00e0 ses troupes de consid\u00e9rer les Allemands comme des ennemis.<\/p>\n<p>Le 5\/10\/1943, la Corse devient le premier d\u00e9partement de France m\u00e9tropolitaine lib\u00e9r\u00e9. Elle fut lib\u00e9r\u00e9e par l&rsquo;arm\u00e9e fran\u00e7aise \u00e0 l&rsquo;initiative du g\u00e9n\u00e9ral Giraud.
