L&rsquo;\u00e9volution du trafic a transform\u00e9 certaines haltes en gare au fil des ans.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>La ligne Dakar \u00e0 Saint Louis via Thi\u00e8s.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>En 1856, le gouverneur du S\u00e9n\u00e9gal, Faidherbe soumet l&rsquo;id\u00e9e d&rsquo;une liaison ferroviaire entre Dakar et Saint Louis mais il faudra attendre 1880 pour que ce projet soit pr\u00e9cis\u00e9 et accept\u00e9. Le 29\/06\/1882, une loi conc\u00e8de la construction et l&rsquo;exploitation \u00e0 la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 priv\u00e9e des Batignolles. La construction de cette voie ferr\u00e9e m\u00e9trique, longue de 264 km, ne demande que trois ans et, le 05\/07\/1885, elle est mise en service de bout en bout. L&rsquo;inauguration officielle eut lieu le lendemain. Toutes les traverses en pin et en h\u00eatre de cette ligne furent remplac\u00e9es par des traverses m\u00e9talliques entre 1900 et 1910, les termites ayant trouv\u00e9 un garde manger de premier choix. Devant le succ\u00e8s d&rsquo;exploitation de cette ligne aussi bien passagers que marchandises, l\u2019arachide en particulier, des travaux de r\u00e9am\u00e9nagement s&rsquo;av\u00e9r\u00e8rent n\u00e9cessaire rapidement. Les gares, de construction sommaire, furent reconstruites.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La construction:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Les travaux furent men\u00e9s bon train car le relief ne pr\u00e9sentait pas de difficult\u00e9s particuli\u00e8res. Un train express, parcourant la ligne en 8 h, relevait la correspondance de chaque paquebot-courrier touchant \u00e0 Dakar. Des trains de section circulaient quotidiennement entre Dakar et Tivaouane\u00a0 et entre Saint-Louis et Louga. Il \u00e9tait \u00e9galement pr\u00e9vu 14 marches suppl\u00e9mentaires de marchandises en cas de fort trafic. En 1856, le gouverneur du S\u00e9n\u00e9gal, Faidherbe soumet l&rsquo;id\u00e9e d&rsquo;une liaison ferroviaire entre Dakar et Saint Louis mais il faudra attendre 1880 pour que ce projet soit pr\u00e9cis\u00e9 et accept\u00e9. Le 29\/06\/1882, une loi conc\u00e8de la construction et l&rsquo;exploitation \u00e0 la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 priv\u00e9e des Batignolles.
